Thanks for taking the time to set the record straight on the Trumbull family. We always welcome and appreciate feedback here, and of course, are always interested in getting stories right. We also love healthy debate and discussion!
As for David Phillips -- although he has admitted to embellishing, I still think of the book as a good place to start if you enjoy these kind of things. As you well know with any "legend," if it's something you find interesting, it's always smart to further research it.
As always, thanks for visiting, and we look forward to more of your input!

Alicia —

Thanks for taking the time to set the record straight on the Trumbull family. Benjamin was descended from Benoni Trumbull, the brother of Joseph Trumbull, the father of Governor Trumbull. Benjamin was the fifth generation descendant of the progenitor, John Trumbull. Governor Trumbull was the fourth generation descendant of the progenitor, John Trumbull. Benjamin was a second cousin to the six children of Governor Trumbull. In an interview published in the Connecticut section of The New York Times, August 14, 1994, David Philips "freely admits to altering some [stories] to make them more memorable." He liked to change the endings or add his own new endings. What kind of folklore is that?

Benjamin Trumbull was not the son of Governor Jonathan Trumbull.
