It may have been before we were married so Im guessing 1999 .. saw an old mattress in a manger with some canned food .. guessing a homeless person at the time ... yes I felt the presence of both Good and evil there. It was awesome at the foot of the cross .. walking through the paths definately felt an uneasy presense felt like someone was watching closely, for all I know it may have been the homeless person. But it felt deeper than that. I prayed hard for the city of Waterbury. It was like the battle of good and evil that was going on in the city was of the same magnitude that was present in Holy Land. I believe it to be more of demonic presence than that of a soul that needs to find its way. That big ole Cross touched a lot of people, not just the people in Waterbury, but the thousands who used to drive by on 84 wether by themselves or with families all acknowledging the Big ole Cross on the Hill! We parked on the side of the road near the gates, and snuck up the path. We only got a little ways up the path - through the trees - before I started to get a very unsettling feeling. It is beautiful and only about 30-45 minutes from Holy Land, and very easy to get to. I wish I could be in CT again, I miss the weird stuff. Also check out Fairfield Hills, it is still being used I think for administrative buildings, but its weird. Hope you have fun! THAT PLACE IS CREEPY but they cracked down on security hardcore on that abandoned town so i dont suggest going there, check out the abandoned insane asylum in norwich, CT there tunnels that connect all the buildings underground, its about 10 minutes away from the casinos i live in vernon, ct and pass it twice a week…i always wondered what that cross was from the highway…my father told me about it and ever since i would love to visit and dudleytown???? It was a peaceful place. I remember going with my grandfather one day and just before it got dark he sat and started praying I walked up further and saw a little red tricycle riding on it's own, I ran back to my grandfather and didn't say a word. The next day I went back with my cousins and we walked to the cross and the little red bike was locked in it. I honestly hope they rebuild it to what it used to be, but I doubt that will ever happen since the last time they tried it just got vandalized as soon as something was fixed.
